Here is a copy of this week's E-bulletin. Here are some of the highlights of the week.
FAMILY STUDIES NEWS
The Family Studies department is selling "Hats for Haiti" in the foyer Tuesday March 9th through to Friday March 10th. All proceeds will be donated to help with the disaster relief efforts in Haiti. This has been an engaging opportunity to connect the Family Studies curriculum to events in our world and to help foster a growing sense of global citizenship. Students in Ms. Ricci's grade nine Individual and Family Living class and Ms. Stinson's grade 12 Challenge and Change in Society class have been actively involved in this department project. Thank-you to all the student and community support.
LITERACY NEWS
We continue the "countdown" to the OSSLT with the second week of Grade 10 focused instruction sessions in the cafeteria. This routine helped to raise our pass rate last year by 6% to 87% for first-time eligible students, and from 36% to 59% for previously eligible students.
For the next four weeks, classes will be called to the cafeteria according to the schedule provided to teachers.
Monday, February 22nd, Grade 10 teachers received a short package grammar material to reinforce the work in the cafeteria sessions and teachers will review this material with their classes. The OSSLT date is Thursday, April 8th. If your child is writing the test this April please encourage him/her to work through the practice materials as they are presented in class.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO CHECK THE EQAO WEBSITE FOR PRACTICE MATERIALS !
